I was diagnosed at age 53 in Sept of 2014. I was having trouble swallowing and an upper GI scope found a 9 cm tumor at the base of my esophagus. Adenocarcinoma. I sought treatment at Johns Hopkins' Esophageal Cancer Center. They did 6 weeks of chemoradiation, followed by a minimally invasive esphagectomy about seven weeks later. I've had five clear scans since surgery. I'm currently a 2 year survivor. I was fortunate as I had very few serious side effects from treatment or surgery. In hospital only one week; 3 months to full recovery. Eating and sleeping normally, although still smaller meals and continue to sleep inclined.
