Like many of you, I had difficulty swallowing my food and after the second complaint to my PCP I was sent for an EGD. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Adenocarcinanoma in Dec 2013 and underwent chemo and radiation in the following two months. Became extremely ill due to treatments and developed intestinal infection that nearly killed me. Spent four weeks in ICU then three more weeks in hospital before being released. I lost 50 lbs and came home using a walker. I regained enough strength to have the esophajectomy in June 2014 and it was successful. I've learned to watch diet closely and rest often. I never returned to work. About a year later CT scan showed three nodules on my lungs that have metastasized adenocarcinoma. and were treated by "SBRT" radiation. That left some scarring on my lungs and diminished capacity but its tolerable. A second round of chemo followed. In Spring of 2017 a scan revealed that the cancer spread to my lymph nodes. Chemo round 3 followed, leaving my extremely fatigued and the results were ineffective. I tried Ceramza next and it didn't seem to help, either. In January 2018 a tumor was found near my brain stem and was treated with the SBRT radiation. Too early to know the results. I'm starting with Keytruda soon (May 2018). Another chapter in the fight. I'm blessed with a loving and caring wife and wonderful children and grandchildren and I've experienced fascinating travels in this world. I hope that I'm around for another 20 years to see more but I'm thankful for every day that I have here on God's green Earth!
