Was diagnosed with EC in August 2008 stage 4 and given 6 months to live. Referred to Dr James Luketich at Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh. Had an esophagectomy November 12, 2008. Dr. said he was sure that he got all of the cancer, but wanted me to take 4 chemo treatments as a precaution. Recovered from the surgery and was able to ride my Harley on Christmas Day 2008. Only rode about 20 miles because it was 15 degrees out, but the best ride of my life because I was alive to do it. Took 4 rounds of chemo starting in January 09 and last one in April. Have only had 1 dialation since my surgery. I eat anything that I want and aside from coughing when I eat, have no problems at all with food. The only other problem I have is that I cannot roll around on the ground working on things because the acid tends to roll up from what is left of my stomach and gag me. November of 2013 was my 5 year anniversary of being cancer free and am considered cured. Not too bad for a guy that was supposed to be dead in 6 months.
